Youths have been charged to be enterprising in order to contribute their quota towards the development of the country.Ogun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Adedayo Adeneye gave this charge while receiving the ECOWAS Youth Parliament (EYP) award as the Most influential Africa Youth Role Model of the Year from EYP Speaker (Ghana), Rt. Hon. Mensah Kweku in his Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta office.
Adeneye said government cannot provide all the wherewithal for the youths, urging them to be enterprising and see themselves as change agent, especially now that the country is yearning for change.
“Government, both at federal, state and local levels have the interest of youths at heart, but they cannot offer what they don’t have.
“Therefore, I want to implore our youths to be enterprising, industrious and determined, rather than engage in criminal acts that could tarnish their future image,’’ he said.
The commissioner lauded the initiative of wife of the Ogun State Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Olufunso Amosun, who according to him, has through her laudable Upliftment programmes, been empowering the unemployed and the aged, adding that those who have maximally utilized the opportunities are now employers of labours.
Appreciating the EYP for the award, Adeneye pledged his unalloyed support for the organization and promised not to rest on his oars towards improving the lot of the youths.
He however thanked the state Governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun for giving him the opportunity to contribute work towards the development of the state.
Kweku, earlier in his remark, said the award was in recognition of Adeneye’s long standing contribution to the success of the Entertainment Industry.
“As ECOWAS youths, our visit to Nigeria is to come and celebrate you as a true leader, a mentor and a role model. You are a man, whose character has characterized his integrity,” he stated.
Also in his contribution, the EYP Deputy Speaker (Gambia), Hon. Mam Mam Sowe appreciated the commissioner for the revolutionary steps he has taken towards improving the lives of the youths, especially in the entertainment and media industry.
