The palaver enveloping Etisalat, now 9Mobile, is yet to be completely dealt with.
Latest information reaching us has it that HUAWEI, one of their key partners recently fired over 100 of their engineers. The saddest aspect, however, was that they were allegedly relieved of their duties on phone!
The affected workers, some of whom had been with the embattled company for years, assembled yesterday morning (Tuesday, July 18, 2017) at the Etisalat office in Wuse 2, Abuja to protest the sudden and shocking termination of their appointments.
Brandishing placards that bore messages like ‘We are not slaves’, ‘Due process must be followed in sacking workers’, etc, they were supported by Comrade Koledade Owa, Chairman, Private Telecommunications and Communications Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and others.
Etisalat, it would be recalled, ran into a serious loan crisis recently, leading to the exit of their parent company in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Still shaking and battling to bounce back, those who know said their troubles will keep manifesting, especially in the days to come.
