Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, will on October 30, the 2nd day of the much talked about COSON Week, engage the nation’s intelligentsia, experts on intellectual property and drivers of the Nigerian creative industry at the 2017 COSON Lecture.
Mr. Onyeama, who before being appointed Minister was Deputy Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Geneva based agency of the United Nations, will be speaking on “Intellectual Property Rights in the New Global Knowledge Economy” a subject with which he is at home.
Another Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information & Culture, who has given unmatched attention to issues related to the creative industry, will be Guest of Honour at the COSON Lecture which will take place at Four Points by Sheraton in Victoria Island, Lagos. Chairing the event will be the nation’s undisputed farther of Intellectual Property, Emeritus Professor, Egerton E. Uvieghara, the first ever Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Copyright Commission.
Mr. Basil Udotai, thoroughbred lawyer, intellectual property and cybercrime wiz and Managing Partner, Technology Advisors will do a systematic breakdown of the subject while a four person panel made up of Mr. Obi Asika, Lawyer, COSON Board Member & Co-Founder, Cabal Entertainment; Mr. Mena Ajakpovi: Lawyer, Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law; Mrs. Uche Nwuka: Economist, Group Head, Creative Industry section, Bank of Industry and Mr. Emeka Mba: former DG, National Film & Video Censors Board and former DG, National Broadcasting Commission will thereafter debate the issues as they relate to the Nigerian situation.
Chief Tony Okoroji, Chairman, Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) and one of the continent’s most renowned voices and thinkers on Intellectual Property Rights, has said that never before has a group of such brilliant minds been assembled to dissect an issue which the country urgently needs to understand, so as to ensure real growth in the nation’s economy. Chief Okoroji has said that he will personally moderate the debate.
