A change of baton has just taken place at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, in Ogba, Lagos. Mr. Gbemiga Ogunleye, until hours ago, the provost of the pioneer journalism school, just handed over to his successor, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye.
In a Facebook post entitled’LEAVING BUT NOT PARTING!‘, Mr. Ogunleye, a thoroughbred journalist and former editor of The Punch had this to say: “Today, after my tour of duty as the Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, I had the privilege, honour and grace of handing over the baton to a distinguished colleague and friend, Gbenga Adefaye.
It’s a grace I do not take for granted. Not many CEOs had that grace.
“Adefaye, who has the double-barrel title of General Manager and Editor-in-Chief of Vanguard is a thorough-bred Journalist. He’s done nothing other than Journalism in the last three decades. A two-term President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, he is one of the best of us.
“I enjoyed the tremendous support of the stakeholders in our industry. I am canvassing the same support for my successor.
Let the house rat tell the bush rat that NIJ continues to march forward!”
Accomplished journalist and two-term governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, currently chairs the institution’s governing board.
