Ghanaian orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, will this weekend take his turn on the Glo-sponsored television magazine programme, CNN African Voices. Boachie-Adjei is being featured after last week’s profiling of Nigerian doctor and founder/ publisher of Health Care, Bola Olaosebikan.
African Voices will be broadcast on CNN International at 4.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. on Saturday and at 12.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. on Sunday. Other repeats of the programme will be shown on Monday at 11:30 a.m. and on Tuesday at 5.30 a.m. Boachie-Adjei developed interest in medicine early in life when a doctor saved him from a life-threatening illness when he was a child. Since then, he has spent decades striving to save the lives of others. His passion for medicine has made the Ghanaian one of the leading experts in the field of spinal surgery worldwide.
He is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College, and Chief Emeritus of the Scoliosis Service at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). He is an Associate Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at both HSS and New York-Presbyterian Hospital. He has a special expertise in the treatment of scoliosis, kyphosis and spine reconstruction in both adult and pediatric patients.
Dr. Boachie-Adjei was born in Kumasi, Ghana, on December 16, 1950. He emigrated to the United States in 1972 and completed his undergraduate studies at Brooklyn College, where he received a Bachelor of Science (summa cum laude) in 1976. He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1980.
He was an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota (1987-1990); Clinical Assistant Professor, University of Southern California (1990-1994) and Assistant Clinical Professor, University of California College of Medicine, Irvine (1993-1994). His clinical appointments included the position of Associate Medical Director at the Southern California Complex Spine and Scoliosis Center in Whittier (1990-1994).
He has published and lectured extensively on Spine Surgery, with special emphasis on surgery to correct spine deformity. He is equally an inventor who holds several patents for devices used in spine surgery.
