This is to inform the general public that the Guild of Public Affairs Analysts of Nigeria (GPAAN) is billed to hold its maiden annual lecture tentatively on Thursday, August 8, 2019. The topic to be discussed during the lecture is: “Nigeria: The Sociopolitical Imperatives and the Need for Electoral Reforms.” The decision to hold an annual lecture was taken during the monthly meeting of the Guild held in April at Capitol Road, Agege-Lagos. It was presided over by Mr. Ayo Oyoze Baje (president). Others in attendance included the General Secretary, Victor Anya, Financial Secretary, Steve Aya, Treasurer, Joseph Amaoru and Richard Oshiomhole.
The above-stated topic carefully chosen for the annual lecture is aimed at taking a crucial and in-depth examination of the foundation of the Nigerian State. Nigerians are not oblivious of the structural defects that need to be amended. From the various elections held since independence including the just concluded 2019 general elections, it is obvious that there is an urgent need for electoral reforms.
The problems of insecurity in the country have assumed a frightening dimension. In many parts of the country, safety of life and property has become scarce commodity. Nigeria is at crossroads hence there is need for collaborative efforts and ingenious solutions.
There shall be two special guest speakers and a panel of discussants that will dissect the topic of the lecture and proffer solutions to the myriad of problems currently confronting the country for the good and benefit of all Nigerians.
In this regard, Nigerians are hereby urged to keep that date in perspective so as to register their presence at the venue of the lecture in order to learn from it.
