Laolu Gbenjo is an upcoming gospel act. From Oyo State and married with two kids, he shared with us how it all started for him…
Tell us about yourself.
I am Laolu Gbenjo; second child in a family of five. I hail from Oyo State and grew up in the same state after which I came to Lagos in 1998. I’m married with two kids, a girl and a boy.
Tell us about your music career.
It all started in 2001. I’ve got no talent for music neither did I ever think I was going to be a gospel lead singer. I got the gift as a result of divine intervention. Having seen and loved the way my colleagues sang then, I had to pray for the gift and to the glory of God today, I can say it has been great with me in the gospel music industry. I have ministered with top gospel artists, home and abroad. To the glory of God, I now own an entertainment company, Pleasant Sound Entertainment. Currently, I have two albums, with the latest one, Take Over, that will be launched in September this year.
Tell us more about the launch and when is it taking place?
Like I said, Take Over is my second and latest album. It will be launched on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at KICC Prayer Dome, Maryland, Lagos and we will be launching it in grand style with a mega concert.
Preparations and every other thing are set to have a great environment and great concert. The concert will also feature top artistes in the industry like Sola Allyson, Big B, Efe Nathan, Akpororo, Lepacious Bose, Acapella, BeeJay Sax and lots more.
How would you describe the journey so far?
The journey has been challenging and great. You know, when life throws negative stuff at you, the way we respond to it determines how far we will go in life. At the onset, it was so rough to the extent that I had to borrow a suit to minister in some of my ministrations, got embarrassed and so many other things. But it’s an entirely different story today with a new glory.
How do you see your success generally?
It has been awesome and inspiring. Most times, when you look back from where you are coming from and see where you are now, you just have no reason but to give God praise. Success is not a destination though, it’s a continuous process and we shall keep attaining it at various levels.
What do you do when you are not working?
I relax with my family.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
By His grace, in the next 5 years, I see the brand, Laolu Gbenjo in all homes and also plan on giving back to the society through my upcoming NGO.
