Today is the 33rd birthday of The Guardian, one of Nigeria’s leading and most respected newspapers.
Established on July 4, 1983 by the late Alex Ibru, the founding team was led by Stanley Macebuh who functioned then as Executive Editor/Managing Director; Lade Bonuola who was signing the paper was the Associate Editor.
Other renowned members of the founding team were Eddie Iroh, Alade Odunewu, Sunmi Smart Cole, Sunny Obazu-Ojeagbase, Sonala Olumhese, etc.
Currently being edited by Abraham Ogbodo, The Guardian, in keeping up with the times and going forward, will be injecting some fresh ideas into the company. And one of them is the introduction of ‘The Guardian Conferences and Master Class’.
The paper which prides itself as ‘The Flagship’ only days back laid off over a hundred staff. And like most media houses, they are also feeling the pinch as regards what is currently going on in the sector.
