Soft spoken and smooth talking Emeka Ogunjiofor , the CEO Morgan Entertainment, is one man that is loved and accepted by his people. The Anambra State born businessman who trained as a crime fighting agent in the United kingdom has been in the news lately over an alleged romance with politics. Rumour mongers actually stated that he had been in secret talks with chieftains of the ruling political party in Anambra state (APGA) over 2015 gubernatorial election. Although when ON POINT! contacted him, he neither denied nor confirmed the tale. He only used the opportunity to clear several other issues concerning his person. In his words: “You see, I have not told anybody I’m going into politics, but each time I take a closer look at what is happening in this country, I feel like shedding tears. Back there in Europe, the government is concentrating on infrastructural development and job creations for the youths, but in Nigeria, what do you see? The government abandons the very important things and run after shadows. There are security lapses here and there, leading to the loss of lives and properties. Electricity is grounded. The standard of education depreciating by the day and yet the government is concentrating on fuel subsidy removal. Get me right, I’m not saying that the subsidy removal scheme is not right, but the big question is if that’s the pressing need of citizens. How can you talk about subsidy removal when lives and properties left in your care as the president are not secure? How also can you stop crime, the killing of innocent people, when you as the government does not create job opportunities for the youths. A good society should accommodate people of the middle class, but in Nigeria, we have only two classes of people. The rich and the poor. It shows a lot of things has gone wrong. So each time I come back to the country like this, I take my time to preach to my people in Anambra State on the need to carry our youths along, the need for general improvement in the governmental system and the need for reforms that would see Anambra State catching up with very popular states in Europe. And each time I do this, they tend to see the leadership quality in me. I know I’ve been approached by some top people, who actually want to talk me into politics, but while I’m not ruling out politics especially if actually chosen by my people, I won’t also agree to the rumour being peddled around that I’m romancing politics”.
Morgan is a philanthropist, as described by many. Could it be right to say that your people are impressed by your philanthropic acts and as such want you to govern them? “You see, I need not blow my trumpet. Whether they call it philanthropy or whatever, I’m just one person who loves affecting the lives of people positively. But that’s not enough. Politics isn’t an easy task, I know. But I will only advice that our government improve on certain things. As a growing up young man, if not for the mercy of God, this country never gave me a chance. I need not go into details. But one thing I’ve noticed is that we Nigerians love to copy the bad side of people in the western world and reinvent it as if we are the original owners. I know you can’t totally abolish crime, but why not also try to copy at least one thing from them, so we could use it to change the situation of this country? For instance, internet fraud. It actually started a long time ago over there. Nigerians keyed into it and right now are champions of the game, and several other things. What is one good thing we have copied from them, nothing. That’s what I mean. So, on my part, I see myself as an agent of change and I’m trying very hard to fit into that category and I urge others to join my train.”
ON POINT! diversified into his company’s new record deal with Konga Ned, Onyenze and some other young talents. Without holding back anything, he said: “There are so many untapped talents in this country and looking at where I was coming from, I realized that if one quarter of Nigeria’s raw talents are mined, it would even enrich this country the more. Getting Konga and others on board is a way of tapping into the many raw talents in the country, so that’s basically what it is.”
It would be recalled that weeks back, Morgan Entertainment rented apartments for its newly signed artistes: Konga and Ned. And equipped them with state of the art furniture, electronic gadgets and to crown it all, the company also kept to its word and handed over to Konga the keys to a brand new 2007 model Cadilac saloon car. Ned was given a gold Acura saloon car. On Point! was also informed that the management of Morgan Entertainment took all the artistes to Cotonou for a special shopping.
In Ogunjiofor’s words: “To do good music, one has to be in the right state of mind, you have to live in the right environment, so as to allow the creativity flow. That’s our watch word at Morgan Entertainment, and we want
