The embattled Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, who has been arrested, detained and released twice by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, over his involvement in a mind blowing N23 billion mess, may be arraigned next week.
Okonkwo, it would be recalled, has not known peace neither has his bank ever since it was allegedly uncovered that he helped former Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, to launder $153 million.
He had been brought to an Ikeja Margistrate Court on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 where EFCC secured an order to remand him in their custody for a week. But after providing useful information to them, he was allowed to go home, pending his likely arraignment next week before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.
Among the offences he’s likely to be charged with are money laundering, conspiracy, fraud and concealment.
Okonkwo was first picked up and detained by EFCC sometime in April over another $115 million which he alleged helped Mrs. Alison-Madueke to disburse during the 2015 elections which the APC lost to PDP.
Upon the discovery of additional billions, EFCC also came for him again. And when the heat was becoming too much for the bank, they quickly appointed an acting MD in the person of Alhaji Lawal Mohammed Balarabe, who has been overseeing the bank since then. And pending the vindication or otherwise of Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo.
