Ndi Anambra have continued to praise His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano over the ongoing Light Up Anambra street lights project.
It will be recalled that Governor Obiano switched on the street lights on the Amawbia to Enugwu-Ukwu stretch last Thursday amidst shouts of joy by residents living on that axis. The street lights which are continuing to Onitsha will be switched on at a future date.
Street lights on other axis including Eke Awka, Amenyi Awka to Finotel Hotel junction are also live.
Collins IK Nkwoji, a native of Enugwu-Ukwu said that the street lights are a big plus to the zero armed robbery and kidnapping status that Anambra state currently enjoys.
Some motorists who spoke to the ABS said that cruising along the stretch feels like a cruise along the Lekki-Epe Expressway or any other expressway in Abuja with the bright street lights and smooth roads.
Ifeanyi Okonkwo, a native of Amawbia said that the street lights will accelerate Anambra State’s move towards becoming a 24/7 economy as shop owners and other businesses can now stay open longer hours.
He praised the Govenror, Chief Willie Obiano (Akpokuodike) and the state Commissioner for Public Utilities, Mr. Obi Nwankwo and their team for good quality job done so far but advised that the state government should ensure that a monitoring and maintenance team be quickly put in place to ensure that light bulbs are changed when required and other repairs carried out promptly.
In a related development, the state Commissioner for Public Utilities, Mr Obi Nwankwo has asked Ndi Anambra to protect the cables and other infrastructure used in powering the ongoing street light projects in the state. He called on Traditional rulers, community leaders, Presidents General of the various communities, the youth and the vigilante services to be on the lookout for vandals who may attempt to steal the cables and damage the infrastructure.
