NIGHT OF SONGS AND TRIBUTES FOR DAME HOPE ONWENU
The Onwenu siblings, which include Azunna, Richard, Ijeoma and Onyeka, are pulling all stops for January 6, 2012, when friends and well wishers will gather for a Night of Tributes and Songs in honour of their beloved matriarch, Dame Hope Onwenu ( Ochie Dike), at The Unity Centre , 28B, Isaac John Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, from 5.00 pm.
Internationally acclaimed singer, Onyeka Onwenu, told us that the event will be a red carpet celebrity affair to honour a truly great woman.
“It will be a night of excellent entertainment in every way. People will enjoy good music in a refreshing atmosphere. It will be a fantastic evening. It will also be a night to give glory to God for a life well spent”.
Scheduled to perform are Stella Monye, Yinka Davis, Omawunmi, Vicky & Tee Songs, the two top ten contestants at Glo Naija Sings. They will be backed by The Kabassa Band, owned by Onyeka Onwenu.
Nollywood star and singer, Stella Damasus, will anchor the evening alongside the bubbling Chido Obidiegwu. To add a spice of laughter to the star studded event shall be the multi talented Gbenga Adeyinka, Mandy, Lepacious Bose, koffi and numerous others.
The late Dame Hope Onwenu, who died at age 92 on October 22, 2011, was a successful business woman, philanthropist, woman leader, singer, song writer and actress. Her daughter, Onyeka reveals:
“Our mother had great compassion for the weak and helpless. She was passionate about the work of God and she sowed the seeds of hard work and diligence into the lives of her children and all around her”.
Her late husband , Hon. D.K. Onwenu, was a First Republic federal legislator and the first Arondizuogu man at the Federal House of Representatives, but elected from Port Harcourt, where he had also served as councilor and deputy Mayor. He was equally the principal of Enitona High School, Port Harcourt.
Interment holds on Friday, January 13, 2012, after a commendation service at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Obinetiti, Arondizuogu, Imo State.
