All roads, YES INTERNATIONAL! Magazine can confirm, will today, Saturday, August 21, 2021, lead to the Blue Roof Top, inside LTV premises, on Lateef Jakande Way, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.
The reason, of course, is the all-white Nite of Tributes being organised by Nollywood, Nigeria’s ever-bubbling and globally-acknowledged film industry for one of their heroines, Rachael Etabuno Oniga. The event, supported by the Lagos State Ministry of Information, Lagos State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, all the guilds and associations in Nollywood as well as a committee of friends commences at exactly 3PM, with a pot pourri of activities already lined up to make it both memorable and grand.
Oniga, it would be recalled, died on July 30, 2021, allegedly from complications arising from malaria and typhoid.
Blessed with three children and born on May 23, 1957, her Nollywood colleagues have been united and generous in giving her a befitting farewell. From Richard Mofe Damijo to Desmond Elliot, Monalisa Chinda to Wale Adenuga, Mo Abudu to Ayo Makun, Opa Williams to Zeb Ejiro, Ejike Asiegbu to Lancelot Imasuen, among dozens of others, the support has been quite commendable. The duo of Pat Ogere Imobhio and Ejiro Okurame, alongside others, have equally been doing a yeoman’s job to ensure that everything goes according to plans at all the activities lined up for her.
Tributes and eulogies, meanwhile, have continued to pour in for Oniga, both from the east, west, north and south.
Her burial, we learnt, will take place on August 26 and 27, 2021.
