The Ogun State Government has assured of improved infrastructural facility and welfare conditions of the workers in the education sector, while also soliciting support of stakeholders.
Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Olatunde Okewole stated this at the maiden interactive session with Education Administrators at the Local Government level and representatives of the State Unions held at the NUT Hall, Kuto, Abeokuta.
He asked the administrators and state unions to be patient with the government as the Federal Allocation was not enough to meet the demands on ground, urging them to cooperate with the present administration at this time of economic hardship.
The SUBEB helmsman pointed out that the state government has been assisting the Local Government Councils in the past five years in order to ameliorate the various challenges despite the dwindling Federal allocation to the state.
‘’Government is aware of the challenges being experienced in the education sector, and with the new Board, I assure you of gradual improvement of both welfare and infrastructural amenities for effective service delivery’’, Okewole said.
Also, the chairman has admonished stakeholders in the education sector to cooperate and support the Government in its commitment at improving primary education in the State.
Speakng at the maiden interactive session with the Board’s Education Secretaries (ES) and Monitoring Officers (MO), held at the board’s headquarters in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, he said all hands must be on deck to ensure that SUBEB officials work as a team, enjoining the ESs and MOs to work harmoniously along their schedules for effective service delivery.
He advised the officers to periodically forward their reports in order to keep the board abreast of developments at their various zonal offices.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Acting Board Secretary who also serves as the Director of Administration and Supplies, Mr. Soji Adewuyi, urged them to make meaningful contributions and suggestions to improve the educational standard of the pupils, urging government to continue to take its pride of place in the development of basic education in the country.
While enumerating issues and challenges being experienced by his colleagues, the Chairman, Education Secretaries Forum (ESF), Elder Kunle Adeoti appealed to the Chairman to improve the welfare of the ES, urging the board to ensure that the edict which established the ES is strictly adhered to.
Also, the Chairman, Monitoring Officers Forum (MOF), Mr. Tijani Samsudeen, on behalf of his colleagues pledged their contribution to the educational development in the state and urged the board to chart a new course for the Monitoring Officers by granting them autonomy in order to effectively discharge their duties.
