Ogun hosts National Council on Environment
The Ogun State Government is to host the 11th edition of the National Council on Environment in Abeokuta, the State capital, between October 16 and 18.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chairman, Local Organising Committee for the event, Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa disclosed this in Abeokuta, after a meeting with representatives of the Federal Ministry of Environment, Abuja in his office.
To be declared open by the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the programme, according to the SSG, has as its theme, Unlocking the Investment Opportunities in the Environment Sector Towards Nigeria’s Economic Recovery, Diversification, Growth and Sustainable Development.
“We have been approached by the Federal Ministry of Environment and Mr. Governor has directed us to convey approval of the government and good people of Ogun State to host the 2017 National Council on Environment, because the impact of the environment on all of us cannot be over emphasised”, Adeoluwa said.
Also speaking, the Acting Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Federal Ministry of Environment and leader of the Federal delegation, Mrs. Florence Sowunmi, expressed confidence in the ability of the state government to host the meeting, given the fact that it had hosted a number of such national events in the past.
No fewer than 1000 participants, including the minister of environment, commissioners, directors and other stakeholders are expected at the meeting.
