I’m very convinced that the reason why we are alive today is because we have a purpose and it’s necessary that we fulfil that purpose. Robert Bynne, an American author, encapsulates the importance of this value when he says, ‘The Purpose of life is a life of purpose’
Simply put, a strong sense of purpose is the most important aspect of our lives. Remember, God has a purpose for everyone Therefore, I opine that the most important motivation for happiness in life is when we walk in line with, and within, our purpose.
For everyone there is a destiny, but how many people achieve their destiny in life? How many people actually fulfill the plan and purpose of God for their life? Most people die with their partly-used potentials and the capabilities to develop or become something greater in the future. We all have the potential to achieve our destiny but in most cases people become distracted and end up being frustrated.
Purpose is the most important thing in life. It is so crucial and extensive that even some challenges we face have the purpose to either teach and prepare us for something or purge us of something else. Let me quickly add that purpose is not the same thing as goal or dream or success. Purpose is the reason why you exist; the space that you have chosen or occupy. We know that nature would always abhor vacuum, so every space has to be occupied. If you fail to take and occupy your place, God will pick someone else to occupy it. It is that simple
Purpose is the reason for your existence. What benefit(s) you provide to humanity. What people would miss about you. What things you are the very best at doing. Just like in Business , until you identify your purpose in business and ensure you provide those services, no matter the strategy, or strength of brand, or strong financial position or current customer base etc. the business will not be sustainable.
Today, as I celebrate my birthday, Allow me to ask some rhetorical questions: What is your purpose in life? What position or space do you occupy? What benefits are you providing to the Nigerian people or your community that no one else can do just like you? Are you serving your community with your business or are you exploiting them?
Leadership for me is not just about a position of influence, rather it’s more about service to humanity. What are you doing with your wealth, knowledge, position and experience? If you have money, sow in people and invest in human capital. If you have been endowed with knowledge, train people and impact their lives; if you have influence, lead your people in the right direction and if you have connection, do the right thing for the benefit of all. Assert yourself for the good of others; you do not always have to take the path of least resistance like water. Make a purposeful impact.
Today, I urge you to find a space and occupy; register your foot print in the sand of time…within your environment, immediate community and in the society at large.
Learn to be good and do well for the wellbeing of our society
May God bless you as you identify your Purpose in life
