Digital Satellite Television (DSTV) is currently in trouble. Their office (Multichoice) in Lagos was raided on Thursday, October 15, 2015 by the officials of the Consumer Protection Council (CPC), accompanied by some police men and journalists. They got there around 1pm and immediately swung into action, looking at this and that and also leaving with all they would be needing for their investigation. The team was led by CPC’s Director of Legal Services, Mr. Emmanuel Alaguba.
The Dewunmi Ogunsanya-led organisation got into CPC’s trouble over ‘…a barrage of consumer complaints alleging wide range abuse of subscribers’ right. These include poor quality of service such as incessant disruption of service without compensation, wrongful disconnection of service during subsisting subscriptions, decoder swap irregularities and poor redress mechanism and customer service.’ Among other allegations.
YES INTERNATIONAL! Magazine learnt that the raid was to checkmate any obstruction of the ongoing investigation into the operations of the company – which began since Friday, July 31, 2015, but had always been hindered by them.
The Managing Director of Multichoice Nigeria, Mr. John Ugbe, has assured CPC of their co-operation as the investigation continues.
