More fact have just emerged on the demise of Reggae music superstar, Ras Kimono.
According to his first and oldest daughter, Oge, her father died of cardio respiratory arrest!
Below is a press statement which she just issued on behalf of the Onwubuya family, unedited:
‘This is to inform the general public on the glorious ascension of our father Mr Oseloke Augustine Onwubuya popularly known as Ras Kimono on the 10th day of June 2018 after a brief ailment at age 60. Ras Kimono who had just treated malaria and cough, was on his way to U.S.A on the 7th of June but was unable to make the trip due to some issues with his ticket. While he was still at the airport he complained about not feeling too strong so decided to go home and come back to the aiport the following day to sort his ticket out. Unfortunately on getting home he felt worse and was rushed to our family doctor in the person of Dr Hansen who recommended a hospital to take him to. On arrival, he was referred to Lagoon hospital where he was admitted until his demise.
He is said to have suffered from cardio respiratory arrest leading to a severe respiratory failure.
We are deeply saddened by the death of one of Nigeria’s most colourful reggae music superstar and proud dad. Our father was a VERY loving, caring and selfless man who spread his love and kindness across the world through his brand of reggae music and relationships. He used his music as a form of activism to fight for everyday disenfranchised peoples. Our dad was full of passion, inspiration and love and we are honoured to have shared him with citizens of the world. This is a difficult time for us as we explore the best way to celebrate him with a dignified burial.
We thank you all for your show of love, prayers and support towards the family. Further details and arrangement shall be made available soon.
Signed
Ogechukwu N. Onwubuya
