The Elegant Stallion and Director General, National Centre for Women Development, Abuja, Lady Onyeka Onwenu, has been in the news lately. However, upon thorough investigation, YES INTERNATIONAL! Magazine exclusively gathered that there is a cabal working to uproot her from her seat and also dent her hard earned reputation.
This cabal, in association with some members of her staff, have been on her case since her appointment. They only just got more ferocious – especially because they now believe that a new government is in place and they seem to have one or two persons up there. Said our source: “What is going on in the social media, with insinuations about financial impropriety at the NCWD is a well orchestrated blackmail by people who believe that Nigerians like Onyeka are not as entitled as they are. Onyeka’s work at the Women Centre speaks for itself and by God’s grace, she has done it with vigour and dedication, achieving much more than had been done in the past and within a short time. Which is part of the problem. She is proud however and holds her head high, with absolute faith in God that all will be revealed soon. These same people have opposed, threatened and even abused her on the job, but she’s taken everything in her stride and continues to forge ahead. Now they have resorted to blackmail, in the erroneous belief that the atmosphere is right for them to now do so. Onyeka is going to address the issue fully, and at the appropriate time”.
We further gathered that these people are working with some NCWD directors who feed them with false information daily and create non-existent situations with forged signatures. They even go as far as issuing false certificates of completion to contractors, after extorting money from them. The Centre has a couple of times reported cases of forged signatures by some of their advisers and others to the police and this has led to the removal of some. A forgery case is even still being investigated by the police. Among many other unholy acts.
“It was when these people who used to have a field day couldn’t penetrate Onyeka’s strong wall that they resorted to this. We have all their names and crime files, but the time isn’t yet ripe to release them. You can go to the Centre and see how Onyeka has transformed the place. You know she’s a hardworker. Go and see their Guest House and how she’s turned around the place. They don’t want her to continue with the good work she’s doing. All they are after is for her to share their allocation with them, and because she has refused, they are now busy blackmailing her, telling her that she must not be a stumbling block. Some of them were people staying there (Guest House) on a permanent basis and without pay. In fact, all the money they claimed they paid couldn’t be accounted for. It’s all these people who used to profit from these fraudulent practices that are after her. They are not happy with her efforts to clean up the place. Thus, they want her out. They’ve even told her to her face that they know they cannot tie any wrong doing to her, but that they will spoil her name and that of the former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, who they believe recommended her for the job”.
On the genesis of the whole drama, we learnt that a former head of a unit wrote an authorized certificate of completion for a contractor for a job that hadn’t been completed, after collecting bribe from the contractor. Due to the poor job done, Onyeka insisted she won’t have that. Not only that, she stopped the contractor from working henceforth for the Centre, which angered all those who were part of the racket. So, they decided to come together to fight her. Thus, the blackmail and media war.
Efforts by us to speak with the DG were futile. She also didn’t reply our text before we wrapped up production.
