It was accolades and commendation galore as Rotary Club of Ikeja South executed its COVID-19 Intervention Project at the Alausa Community in Lagos on Thursday, April 23, 2020.
Aimed at touching lives and bringing succour to some of the residents, the project was specifically targeted at those whose daily income had been truncated as a result of the weeks old lockdown as well as the elderly.
Working with the Community Development Association (CDA) and independent accessors, hundreds of families received the club’s special packs that contained 4kg rice, 4kg garri (a local cassava flour staple), semovita, spagetti, noodles, vegetable oil and tomato puree. That was not all, Vitamin C tablets and sanitizers were part of the pack too.
According to President, Rotary Club of Ikeja South, Rtn Michael Effiong James, the project which cost N500,000 was delivered with funds from the club, donation by club members and a N75,000 grant from District 9110.
He noted that, “We also got in-kind donation from Past President Tayo Hassan (vegetable oil), Past President Patrick Ishida (Cocacola), Gracevalley Medical Centre (Face masks, gloves and Vitamins) and Hello Products Limited (owners of Tetmosol brand) facilitated by Rtn Emmanuel Agboola for disinfectants and sanitizers.
Hours after the distribution which covered 17 streets with beneficiaries being met at their specific addresses, some of them sent notes of appreciation to the club for its wondrous gift.
The commendation, according to the Service Project Chair, Past President Julius Nwokoro, is an indication that the COVID-19 Intervention Project has made the necessary impact that the Rotary Club wanted and the gesture will equally go a long way in not only giving the beneficiaries relief but will help them stay at home, stay safe and prevent the spread of the pandemic.
