The appointment of Sen. Olabiyi Durojaiye, days back, as the Chairman of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has been generating talks here and there – and ever since President Muhammadu Buhari made the announcement. The talk majorly has been that at 83, Durojaiye is more analogue than digital. Especially now that the communication sector has been seriously altered.

1. He was born in 1933, and that makes him 83 years.
2. He has a BSc in Economics and an LLB in Law, both from London.
3. He equally attended the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, in Kuru.
4. For 35 years, he worked as a Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria and Nigeria Minting and Printing Company.
5. He later worked for the International Monetary Fund, Federal Reserve System, USA and City University, London.
6. In 1988/89, he got elected as a member of the Constituent Assembly.
7. In 1992, he contested in the SDP presidential primaries, but lost to late MKO Abiola.
8. A staunch member of NADECO, he was arrested and detained for months by late Gen. Sanni Abacha.
9. Between 1999 and 2003, he was elected as a Senator, representing Ogun East.
10. Currently a widower, his wife, Florence, died on June 6, 2009, at the age of 72, and exactly 2 months after both of them celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
