Shock and surprise have continued to reign all over the world ever since billionaire ICT giant, Bill Gates and his wife, Belinda announced that their marriage of 27 years is all over.
According to the couple who are widely known and respected for their Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, “We no longer believe we can grow together as a couple”.
Continuing, they added, “After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage.”
The world, expectedly, has been unable to fully digest the shocking news and also what could have prompted it – especially in their old age.
We learnt that Bill and Melinda first met in the 1980s when the latter joined the former’s Microsoft firm.
They have three children and used to jointly run the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which they have assured isn’t going to be affected by their divorce. The foundation, it would be recalled, has continued to shell out billions of Dollars in the war against causes such as infectious diseases and encouraging vaccinations in children.
“Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives.
“We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in the next phase of our lives.
“We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.” They both added via a tweet.
Bill, one of the world’s richest men, is 65 while Belinda is 56.
They tied the nuptials in 1994 on the Hawaiian island of Lanai, and 27 years later say they can no longer continue together as husband and wife. Thus, shocking and surprising the world.
“Sincerely, I can’t believe that both are divorcing…It sounds so surreal…But you never know it all…This is as shocking as it is unexpected…But I wish them all the best…Especially because they have promised that this won’t affect their foundation”, ended one of the we chatted up.
