She is the best when it comes to acting bad roles in Nollywood. She can also make you cry, curse or throw a jab at her when the role reverses. Patience Ozokwor, often refered to as Mama G, told YES INTERNATIONAL! Magazine, during a chat on Friday, December 5, 2014, why she was named Patience. According to her: “Everyone has a reason for choosing a name and a name goes a long way in describing you. If we ask our parents, they would tell us why they gave us the names they gave to us. In my own case, I was named Patience because my parents could not produce male children after marrying for long and my father even married three wives. My mother was the third wife and any time they gave birth to a male child, he died! So, the child that came before me was named Hope and when I was born a female too, they named me Patience. So, I believe there is a reason behind every name”. Born on March 25, 1958 in Amaobo village, in Ngwo, Enugu State, she attended Abimbola Gibson Memorial School, Lagos and later gained admission into Methodist Girls, Yaba, but it was at the heat of the political crisis that later culminated into the civil war. So, she had to relocate to Enugu. She got married immediately afterwards at the age 19. Now a widow and a mother of three biological children, with one adopted, her first son is an engineer while the last one is a footballer with Rangers International of Enugu. She once said this about her bad and wicked roles: When I play the role of a bad woman, I see myself at that instance as a mirror through which I want society to see and appreciate the fact that it is not good to be bad. This is the reason I do it with so much passion that it becomes almost believable and by extension, I also see such roles as an opportunity to minister to lost and wicked souls that jealousy, hatred, envy and all the likes can only bring one to ruins”. Ozokwor constantly plays bad roles because it is regarded as her strong point. She also portrays these roles with so much expertise which makes people want to watch her movies again and again. Mama G, like she is widely known, has featured in over 200 movies and there is still no stopping her.
