The political empire built by the strong man of South West politics, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for almost two decades now, is gradually falling apart. An insider told YES International! that the empire is no longer as solid as before – and that if care is not taken, the 2015 election will lay everything bare. We gathered that the 2015 governorship election in Lagos State is one of the reasons. “Some people had been on queue for many years now. But from the look of things, it’s like Asiwaju is no longer interested in that. What we actually heard is that Fashola may likely choose his successor, instead of Asiwaju. And this will definitely not go down well with some of his core loyalists who have been waiting patiently since.
“The intrigues are currently playing out. As a matter of fact, names of the likely people to take over from Fashola are already flying up and down, but I won’t want to comment on that yet”. The other reason given is Tinubu’s new attitude. “He’s no longer as decisive as before, meaning that something may be wrong somewhere”. The implication of this, according to one insider, is that his political group may soon scatter. “Yes, if he wants to do that, we will help him to so. We can’t be working for him all this while only to be treated like this. Anyway, we know what to do when the time comes. And let me also tell you this, what may likely happen in Lagos when the time comes is what is currently going on in Ekiti State where two of his boys, Hon. Bamidele Opeyemi and Gov. Kayode Fayemi are at each other’s throat. But that of Lagos will be worse. Just watch and see – except the right thing is done”. Tinubu, a two-term former governor of Lagos, handed over to Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN; his then Chief of staff. Currently winding down, after also doing two-terms, the latter’s successor is said to be the bone of contention in their camp.
