The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Honourable Mudashiru Obasa, has opened up on why he honoured an invitation extended to him by the anti graft agency, EFCC. According to him, he had to do so as a patriotic citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Obasa, equally the chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, it would be recalled, appeared before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday, October 8, 2020 as the agency continued with the investigation of some allegations bordering on multi million naira against his office.
Thus, he was at the EFCC office to honour the invitation sent him by the agency and again respond to the weighty allegations.
“As a good citizen of Nigeria, a public officer and lawmaker, it was just justified that I honour an invitation by an agency trying to find out some answers relating to some questions”, he had said.
Adding that, “It is normal for the EFCC to invite whoever it deems should be invited. Honouring the invitation simply shows patriotism,” Obasa ended in a statement released by his media office.
The Speaker, finally, insisted that he had returned home and was never detained by the EFCC as was being speculated in a section of the media.
