Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has kicked off the process for the formal take off of the Ogun State Polytechnic, located in Ipokia, in the Ogun West Senatorial District.
The governor, who yesterday performed the ground breaking of the institution, which will sit on 500 hectres of land, assured that it will be run in accordance with best practices and standards, with its products able to compete favourably with others worldwide.
He disclosed that the Monitoring Team from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), in charge of polytechnic administration in the country, will be visiting the site next month as a follow up to the approval granted the state for its take off.
He added that the institution, which already has more than 42 accredited courses, will bring about all round development to the area and by extension the state.
He promised that appropriate compensation will be paid to those whose property, farm land or farm produce will be affected in the course of the construction work.
Speaking on the choice of Ipokia, Amosun identified the topography of the land as well as the serene environment, adding that the area is very conducive for learning.
Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga while congratulating the people of the district, called on the youths, women and even school drop outs to take full advantage of the opportunity and go back to school, to better equip themselves for the future.
In her welcome address, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Modupe Mujota said the establishment and siting of the institution in Ipokia, is a clear demonstration of the principle of the governor in the fair distribution of resources among the three Senatorial Districts of the state.
Appreciating the Amosun administration for giving education priority in the state, she noted that it has not only made education affordable and qualitative but also gone extra mile to ensure accessibility and relevance.
Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraj Ishola Adekunbi expressed delight that the bill, that was signed into law for the establishment of the polytechnic under his leadership is being executed.
